Earlier this month in Jackson, MS, I was able to attend the Great Xscape Tour. After what seems like a lifetime apart, the group Xscape decided to reunite via a reunion tour. I mean who wasn't a Xscape fan back in the day? I know I was singing "My Little Secret" and "Run to the Arms" as a child and still play it in recent times. Since I was supposed to go to the Carolina's this month, I didn't think I'd be in town for the 12/28 performance in New Orleans, so that's how I ended up in Jackson. I also attempted to see Xscape at Essence in July but failed tremendously due to the swarming crowd.
The show opened with Tamar Braxton whom I'm not the biggest fan of but must admit that she has a great voice via live performance and she did bring some fans up to sing her song. She also has the guy who made the Patty Labelle pies famous as the person who introduces her and he sings a line or two on stage.
Next up was Monica, whom I've always been a fan of. She's just the epitome of beauty and class. She reminded us that she had debuted 22 years ago. It truly made me feel nostalgic knowing that I remember the year she came out. Her voice is simply amazing and every song was delivered effortlessly perfect, even her tribute to the infamous Lauryn Hill.
Last but not least was Xscape. Their voices haven't seemed to age not a bit. They were amazing. I'm a Kandi fan and though many people may not like her voice, I think it does work well in the group for harmonizing purposes. Though she won't be making new music with the group, I can totally understand that decision since she's been offered a major role in the play Chicago. The group sent me back to the 90s and back. It truly was an amazing experience hearing such beautiful voices in person. If I could, I'd go to the concert again here. It was worth every dime.
