Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s infamous “I Have a Dream” speech was delivered in 1963 and the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964. King passed in 1968 and didn’t get to witness the full manifestations of his work for social justice. Can you believe that this was only a hop and a skip away ago in time? Most of our parents were kids and our grandparents were about our age or so. Our ancestors fought for us to be positive role models, strivers for justice and equality, respectable and honorable, a reflection of the ambitious nature of our forefathers, exhibitors of God’s Love, higher achievers and just overall reflections of GREATNESS and proof that their struggle was worth every single drop of their blood, sweat and tears.
If you, as my people, are not doing all of the above then you and people like our overtly racist “Celebrity in Chief” are apart of the problem. You’re setting us back in time...
Langston Hughes already asked, “What happens to a Dream deferred?” Stop dampering the significance of your role in MLK’s dream in exchange for your short course of a dance with ignorance and attempt to live up to the racial stereotypes and the “hype”.
You definitely know better... so do better!
