#ShesGottaHaveIt ****SPOILER ALERT****

When was the last time you actually enjoyed something written and produced by Spike Lee? I think School Dayz and Malcolm X were the last ones for me. No disrespect to Spike Lee, but I just don't care for his writing. Now he's produced great movies like Love and Basketball, The Original Kings of Comedy, Inside Man, and The Best Man, but let's not forget Get on the Bus and from what I hear, Chi-raq was also bad. It's refreshing to find my original thoughts of his written work proven wrong.

I've been watching the episodes of She's Gotta Have It on Netflix, and I'm loving it. I can admit that I can vaguely remember the movie likely because I was too young to be watching a film about sex. The series focuses on the main character, Nola Darling, and her choice to be a free spirit and date multiple men at once. She is the epitome of a free spirit; from her occupation as a painter, her natural hair, her bull nose ring, her bisexual tendencies, etc. Though I could never live this life, what I do love is how she chooses to not conform to the standards of society or the standards that men place on women. When asked on the season finale why does she think she can do what she does, she simply replies stating that men do it all the time. I love it! The re-up of this show focuses on current topics like butt injections, sexual harassment, police brutality, Anti-Trump, etc. The visuals are done perfectly. The most impressive thing for me is the artwork Nola Darling produces, and the music that makes up the soundtrack. I can see myself searching for the soundtrack to this via iTunes/Apple Music very soon. When you look at the talent that the artist behind the paintings has, it inspires me to finally put my easel, canvases and brushes to work... I finished the first season in about 2-3 days. I can't wait to see season 2.
