Last year, I must say. I out did myself in the crafting area. It's no secret that I sometimes like to dab into crafting. Between being able to draw/paint and having a mother who always did crafts with us or projects for the house, I'd say it's almost second nature to me. I own a Sihlouette machine, and just really don't give it the use I should for how much it cost. Last year and a little bit of this year, I made quite a few things I'd like to share.
For starters... I feel like I'm officially grown woman status since I've made my first floral arrangement for my place that I"m actually proud of. Now let me reiterate that it's not my first arrangement, but this one gets love since it sits on my dining room table. I think it makes Mama proud though my picture doesn't serve it justice. What I take pride in is that in person it looks real and people always want to touch it.
I was in a wedding last year... which I've declared as the last time I will be a bridesmaid. Don't worry I will have to do a post just about my reasoning for that decision. The bridesmaids wanted to decorate wine glasses as a group activity. Well if you know me, I don't like group projects. They never turn out the way I want the to, they require me to leave my home and they take up too much time. So I volunteered to just do the glasses myself. I got the idea from this post that I saw on Pinterest.
I bought acrylic paints for glass and made it happen. Slowly but surely, I produced glasses for the entire bridal party.
I think those came out pretty good for a first attempt.
For Christmas, I decided to gift on a budget. I also decided I wasn't buying my staff $20-25 gift cards as I have in the past. Why not? Because the entire office staff grew to like 30 people, and some people have really shown themselves to be very selfish and ungrateful in the past 3 years that I've done this. Why give them anything? Because I'm a firm believer in showing appreciation for people who make your day run even just the slightest bit smoother. I wanted to still give something as a token of my appreciation. I decided to make personalized tumblers ($1/cup at Dollar Tree) for the women and personalized glasses for the men. I also did a Yeti cup for my brother and a coworker who are Cowboys fans.
I'm actually quite impressed with the results. My staff seemed completely happy with the gifts and seemed more appreciative than they were of the gift cards in previous years. I have more Yeti cups to produce for family, but I'm still loving the results.
I have a few more craft ideas for this year that I can't wait to roll out. We'll see what this Christmas brings.
