Dear Tyler Perry,
I hope this letter reaches you in good health. (Do you remember when people really used to write that in letters?)
What's up? I figured I'd dedicate today's blog to you since today is the day I normally watch your TV shows. While I admire your overall testimony and story of success... I figure we must touch base on a few things. I am by no means in agreement with Spike Lee's opinion of your work, which comes across as pure jealousy. I do feel like you cater to a particular audience and have been successful in that. I'm not and have never been into your sitcoms. I gave up on Madea after maybe it was Madea's Witness Protection or whatever came out in June 2012. My reasoning is because it lost that leg slapping humor that it used to have for me when I first saw it. I literally slept through the entire movie at some random theater in Mississippi.
Despite this, I do have an affinity for dramas so I watch The Haves and The Have Nots and If Loving You is Wrong. For the first few seasons I loved these shows. While they still have that "I wonder what's going to happen next factor", we must discuss a far more grand topic. Why do your plots have to be drawn out so incredibly long? I mean for If Loving You is Wrong we spent a whole season only covering what seemed to be like 2 days. Also who's the acting coach? If we don't get them to put in some more hours with Kelly on this show then I'm not quite sure I can bear any more. Why must we also bombard a plot with every possible scenario that can happen? In reality these plots seem just way too far fetched to ever be considered one person's reality. The same things apply to The Have and the Have Nots. I know it can't be just me that has these issues because my coworkers have the same dilemma. I also know people who have stopped watching the show because of this. I am trying to hold on because again, I like to see how the plot plays out, but it is truly painful to endure each episode that drags along and is poorly acted out.
Finally did we have to kill the baby (Kandace's son)? I mean you really got the "Oh Lawd, not the baby" response out of me last Tuesday, but dang. That was cold. I just know the internet will be circulating a faux funeral program for this baby within the next few weeks. I could feel my coworker when she said, "Girl I'm done with Tyler now that he's killing children." Lol. 😩😩
Though I am reaching my whit's end with these shows... I suppose watching again tonight won't hurt anybody. Just please take these things into consideration as we press forward.
Signed,
A concerned young lady who likely won't stop watching but says she's going to after every show
