My sermon notes
Based on Roman 5:6-8
Franklin Ave Baptist Church 2/10/13
Sermon by: Pastor Fred Luter, Jr.
The way we may look at a couple that don't seem to match and ask what that person may see in the other person, the devil looks at God and ask Him the same thing about us. Despite everything we have done, God still loves us.
God's love is mysterious because...
1) God loved us when we were weak.
Jesus said He was going home to His Father but would leave a Comforter to be with us on the inside.
Ex: A glove that's just laying there can't do anything, but once you put strength (hand) in the glove, the glove can move. The glove can now do what it couldn't do by itself.
Ex: Pentacost- God made the church do something they couldn't do without Him.
Once you have God on the inside, you can do things you never thought you could.
2) God loved us when we were wretched.
"Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me..."
The Bible holds examples for God's grace but if you look around you, God's grace is evident in each of us.
Grace woke us up this morning. Not because we earned it. God gave His love to us when we were sinners, wretched, weak, etc.
3) God loved us when we were wicked.
Remember verse 8 to remind your enemy, the devil, etc. that at one time you were weak, at one time you were wretched, at one time you were wicked, "But God..." Said no, I'll take you as you are, mold you and make you what you need to be. Everyone else sees your past, but God sees your future. They see your struggles, but God sees your success. Everyone say you defeated, but God saw you as devoted. Everyone else saw you as passive, but God saw you as devoted.
God sees you as somebody that can tell anybody about Somebody that can save everybody.
It's amazing... the mystery of the love of the God. No matter who you are rest, rely, bask, live, remember, and REMAIN in the mysterious love of God.
God looks beyond ALL of our faults and sees our needs.
AMEN
