God [Period].

I've been told that my sermon notes are good so I've decided to bring them to my blog. I hope it ministers to you as the message ministered to me.

My Sermon notes 2/17/13- Psalms 100
Youth and Young Adult Sermon by Chip Luter (Franklin Ave Baptist Church, New Orleans, LA)
Verse 3 says "Know that The Lord is God [Period]."

Sometimes we want more than just knowing that He is God.

When you have nothing but you have God, that should be an exciting thing.

The recognition is that He's God [Period]. The reason is that He is the One who made us.

Everything you enjoy right now is His, even your own body. The air you breathe, you owe to God.

Perceive, recognize and understand with approval that He is God. Sometimes we recognize and understand but we don't approve that He is God.
Ex: we pay and file taxes because we recognize and understand that we have to but we don't approve with excitement.

It's a good thing that He is God [Period]. If you don't understand and approve this then nothing else makes sense.
Ex: Jesus dying on the cross just seems like an admirable religious act if you take out the equation that He is God [Period].

Ex:
Draw a circle that represents your life. Around the inside of the circle there is school, relation(ship)s, job, career, family, hobby, Who Dat. W/o God the inside of the circle is "Me".
People look other ppl's marriages and decide they want to do it. Or look at their jobs and decide they aren't happy. We do what we have to do just based on what we want to do.
When God is God [Period], you have all those things around the inside of your circle or in your life but in the center is "God." When He is God is God [Period], you don't do anything unless it coincides with Him. You choose friends, schools, jobs, hobbies, etc. based on whether or not it is what God approves of.

In our culture youth and young adults are surrounded by things that cause them to focus on self.
Question: can you have Praise and worship w/o God?
Ex: MJ's "Man in the Mirror" video. People were praising and worshipping MJ.

There are parents with the same issue of surrounding their lives around self. The reason is because we all are born into sin.

If you are going to live with God [Period] in the center, then there are 3 things that you need to know.

1) Receive God's control
Ex: trust fall-
Not blind folded someone will fall back on you b/c they see you and hear you.
Blind folded someone will be cautious about falling back but when you know that God is God [Period], you know that He will cushion your fall. You don't have to see Him to know that He is there.

We should be able to to trust God depending on your relationship with God. Some people have appointments with church but lack a true relationship with God.

2) Receive His commitment
God wants to be involved in everything we do. You can't just leave God at home while you do whatever you want.

Ex:
Neglectful: There are some parents that let their kids live freely and do whatever they want.
Very involved: While there are other parents who want to know their kids every move. Where you been? Who were you with? What did you do?
Where are you better off? With the neglected or the very involved?
Sometimes it may be so frustrating but you have to receive God's Commitment. He wants to be involved in everything you do.

3) Receive God's commands
Whenever you own anything, don't you have rules for the tenants that are using it?
Ex: rental property, someone borrowing your car, etc.
God is our authority, He gives the commands and if we go South and do wrong, He holds accountability.

Ex:
If you are tithing then wait to see what happens.
If you are waiting for sex until marriage then wait. If it all goes bad, it's all on God [Period].

Just do what He is asking you to do. Start being who you are according to the scriptures.

If following God's word goes wrong then it's God's fault not yours. Know that He is God [period].

Either you are in or you or out. Either you are hot or cold. You must make a decision. Make God [Period] the center of your life.

AMEN
