This year marks my 10 year anniversary of my graduation from Xavier University of Louisiana. Wow. It also marks my 5 year anniversary of my graduation from Illinois College of Optometry school. I seriously don't know where the time goes. I decided to do Homecoming weekend this year for the first time. As most people know, I didn't have a ton of friends in college, or in life in general. I'm not a fan of female friends and Xavier was predominantly that. During my time there I was a commuter and had the mindset of getting my education and going home. So many people couldn't understand that, but unlike most who matriculate through college, I graduated in 4 years not 6 or 8. So last weekend, I met up with some familiar faces, tailgated, took our class photo and went to party at club Metro. It was a busy Saturday, but we had a great time. The most memorable moment for me for this weekend was coming across a woman on the elevator who was XU c/o 1952. The fact that she looked great and was coming the the homecoming banquet on her own was so humbling. She encouraged us to continue to come to homecoming. Though I doubt I'll go back until our 20 year reunion, I will actually take what she said and at least think about. In the mean time, I thank God for progress! It's been 10 years and I stand on the other side of the struggle among the greats. I'm humbled to be where I am.
