For starters, I won't even pretend to be a fan of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette because I think it is all heavily scripted. I miss old dating shows like the 5th Wheel, Blind Date, Singled Out, The Blame Game, and Love Connection... You know shows where it was actually frowned upon if you slept with the contestants. I will admit that my interest took a twist when I found myself loving Flavor of Love, I Love New York, Surreal Love, etc. So here we are with The Bachelorette Season 13 is special because it includes the first African American bachelorette in the history of the show. That's a bit ground breaking but not surprising considering the history of this country. Yet, this is what made me watch the show.
This season's Bachelorette is Rachel Lindsay a 32 year old well-to-do lawyer from Dallas. She is the reject of The Bachelor Season 21 who became a fan favorite and everyone wants to see her find televised "love". Insert a major eye roll right there. So here I am watching Rachel wheedle through a host of men to find what America wants to see... a steamy prefabricated romance evolve. Well immediately I'm just not drawn to Rachel... I'm always the type to give credit where credit is due but the only credit that I can give her is that she's doing the damn thing professionally. On this show I'm a bit disappointed in her I guess doing as she's told or just being this loose to keep kissing every guy she goes on a one-on-one with. I mean... I have never kissed 2 men in one day. One year maybe, but not one day. No I'm no virgin Mary but literally there are moments where she's kissed like 5 men intimately in one episode. Grant it, I know that these episodes cover days but geez woman! Do I think that Rachel will find love? No. Not on this show. I don't know of any successful marriages that stemmed from a dating show. Pardon me for being the Debbie Downer of the bunch, but I just don't see it happening. I do think that she will end up with Bryan, the 37 year old Chiropractor. I think they have the most "chemistry" and it just all seems to be pointing this way. I think what has annoyed me the most about this show was the seemingly racial battle between contestants, Lee and Kenny. At moments I wanted to reach through the screen and slap the hell out of Kenny for even allowing someone to get under his skin the way he did. At other moments I wanted to reach in and stick the middle finger at Lee then proceed with my day. They both got on my nerves equally. So much til between episode after episode of their bickering and the emotional roller coaster of Kenny and now Rachel, I am officially over the show. I will check back to see if my assumption of the winner was correct but I just don't believe I can subject myself to watching this particular form of meaningless entertainment. I should really be reading a book or better yet writing a book since too many people are telling me that book writing should be my next venture. Either way, something's got to give...
