Clearly I haven't been attending to my blog as I should but I have good reasoning. Lot's going on in my life so the next few days will be plentiful posts just to get things caught up.
Almost exactly a month ago was my last week at the Tuscaloosa VAMC and I must say it's bitter sweet. My next stop is home for a quarter for another internship. During my time at TVAMC I spent most of my weekends hanging out with a friend in Birmingham. We did our last fitness class together at P.Y.T fitness in Hoover and decided to go to dinner at Carrabbas. She's been craving calamari so we ditched our idea of going to Cheesecake Factory. Before we could make it there I received some of the best news I had heard all month. I passed Part 3 of my national board examination! So you know what that calls for? A celebration... White peach sangrias it is!
So everyone has been inquisitive about my living arrangements while living/working at a V.A. hospital. Let's just say that they were sufficient. I mean, you can't really complain about free. The room was about the size of that of a single dorm room with a private bathroom, microwave and refrigerator. There was a kitchen available for the staff and patients as well as one washer and dryer. I opted to not use either for obvious reasons. The worse aspect was having to hear hospital workers all night and walk through the psych ward just to get to my department in the hospital. None of the patients really knew that I lived there since I only came out while heading off site.
Overall my experience at the V.A. is one I will never forget. I've everything from a suicidal patient, a patient who coded and required a crash cart, 81 year old with passion marks on his neck ask me to put my number in his phone, and numerous other crazy incidences. Needless to say the hours were great and my coworkers were amazing. Anyone who knows me knows that I LOVE banana pudding. So one of the residents made me a batch of homemade Paula Dean style banana pudding. It was HEAVENLY. :)

Our waiter was fab since we were "celebratin'" as he kept saying. Lol. He even gave us a free dessert. :)
The road from Tuscaloosa to New Orleans is about 4.5 hours according to GPS but it's irrelevant what it is according to my driving skills. Needless to say I was excited to head back to the place I call home and open another chapter of my life. My goal for the next few months to a year is to be a tourist in my own city. We'll see how it goes.
