September Fitness Update

http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/08133/881065-53.stm
My quest to the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure 5K is narrowing down. I have about 24 days until my big day, and I think that I will be more than ready by then. I'm entering week 10 of my Couch to 5K program. Sure, I should have reached that a long time ago but considering travel and just life, it's been tough to stay completely on track. It's also been really hard going from running the Lake Shore Drive trail in Chicago which is fairly straight to running around a 1mile track 3-4 times. I am currently able to do about 3.2 miles within a 30-33 minute period. My goal for this race is to just do it under 30 minutes, but honestly I'll be just happy if I can complete the race at all just b/e of what it means to me. A friend of mine just lost her aunt, whom I've known my whole life, last week to breast cancer.  So this race is more about the cause than it is about anything else. I love how people always want to tell you what you should be doing or how fast you should be going when they have ran a million races before. Lol! Again, this is just my FIRST race and if I like it I may do the Fall Crescent City Classic back home which is also a 5K and on Nov 5. That may be wishful thinking but by then I'm sure I'll be over prepared and have my time down.

As far as other fitness endeavors, I am still doing Zumba weekly. I'm down to just one class a week which is free in the park in Birmingham. I usually run right before class so I'm usually exhausted but still smiling throughout class.

A friend of mine has talked me into doing this pole and chair dancing workshop with her so I'm scheduled to do that with the ladies of P.Y.T. Studio. On top of that I tried their strut pump class last week and was "turned out," for a lack of better wording. This class reminds me of why I love the South. It consisted of straight booty bouncing and popping even finishing with doing a handstand and booty popping on the wall. I know you are like really??? But I'm serious. Lol. It was fun and my thighs got a good burn in. So I would like to stick with that class too considering that I bought a punch card for this fitness studio. I'm supposed to try Zumba there this weekend which I'm excited about since the instructors here obviously have rhythm and can dance. I'll keep you guys posted on that one.

Overall I'm running about 2-3x per week, Zumba and/or Strut Pump once a week and a workout DVD once a week. I'm still mastering my piloxing video. For those who don't know, Piloxing is this blend of pilates and boxing. I'm not the best at it just because it's hard and pilates positioning hurts so bad, particularly the seated positions.

I'm not sure how much I weigh because weight wasn't and still isn't  a focus of mine. I would assume I'm still about 140-142 lbs. (My weight can range dramatically from like 135 lbs-150 lbs) I just wanted to tone and feel accomplished and work on looking great in my two piece. Judging from the pics that I would never share publicly, things are looking pretty good if I do say so myself. I don't do much weight work any more do to only having access to my 5 lb weights and no gym. So I'm not as toned as I probably would like to be yet I'm headed in the right direction.  Move over A.J. Johnson and Angela Bassett. Lmbo.
