Is chivalry dead?

I've always dreamed of my chivalrous Prince Charming riding in on a stallion like in the movies since I was a kid with thick glasses and pigtails. Let's face it, it's 2011, and Prince Charmings just aren't that plentiful. Instead, we get the idiotic guy who pulls up next to you at the traffic light saying, "Say guh! What yo name is?" Call me old school or what have you, but I love a chivalrous man. I love a man that approaches me in a tasteful fashion. I love a man who opens doors, pulls out chairs, holds my hand and helps me off a curb, walks on the street side of the sidewalk, gets up when a woman or an elderly person needs to sit, wants to come in when he picks me up for a date at my mom's house, ask my parents for my hand in marriage, propose down on one knee, a man who runs to the car and pulls up to the door of the movie theater or restaurant in the rain so I won't have to get wet, etc. 

Is it that these men are endangered species or is it that women don't desire these things any more? A guy friend of mine told me that he's dated women that don't like that type of attention from a male. What is wrong with the women of today? A good man is hard to find anyway and you are complaining and don't want a man to open your car door for you even if you are driving??? WTH! The stupidity of some women is causing other women to suffer. Just because you don't want all those things and find it lame, doesn't mean that the next woman won't cherish it and adore it. I totally understand this whole demand for equality that some women have, but I still long to be treated like a queen.


From another perspective, a lot of men refuse to implement any chivalrous practices. Courting isn't a term that's used any more. Men just feel like they can do as they please. There are some men who blatantly say that they are not going to open a car door for a woman when she can do it herself. What??? Not even for your mom? I absolutely despise seeing a male walk in a doorway before a woman or hold the door just for their girl to walk through but not for the little old lady that's right behind them. Ladies, a man who respects his mother and other women will be the man to potentially show you the utmost respect.

I'm not sure if chivalry is just dying out on it's own or if men and women are killing it. Maybe it's a mixture of the two. The fad seems to include a lot of disrespect and stupidity. For me, this form of behavior is unacceptable. We as women can't continue to make all of these claims about men being dogs and disrespectful and so on if we are the ones teaching them to treat us as lesser beings. Swallow your pride pill and allow a man to hold your umbrella or put your coat on your shoulders in the winter. In the end, you will learn that you deserve it and grow to appreciate it. I'm #teamchivalry and I'm not accepting anything less.
