So I think we all knew there would be a part 2 to my previous post. Yesterday was just amazing. Beautiful weather, good health, it was my sister's birthday and did I forget to mention food. Everything I ate yesterday was simply amazing.
First stop was lunch at the infamous Dooky Chase Restaurant. I'm ashamed to say that I can't recall that I've ever heard of this restaurant before. Everyone says that I have but the name just didn't ring a bell. I promise that the more schooling I do, the more it seems that I flush out all info that I used to know. :( Well the restaurant is owned by the cutest old lady named Leah Chase. I hear she usually comes out to mingle with diners but she didn't this time. Upon entering, I was totally surprised to see such a nice establishment. The first thing I noticed was a picture of Mrs Chase and President Obama, another of Obama putting on a bib to eat with Norman C. Francis (the president of Xavier University) walking by in the background and a drawing of Princess Tiana (from the Princess and the Frog) and Mrs Chase. There was subtle music playing in the background, white table clothes, a friendly hostess greating us as we entered and the smell of good Southern style cooking.
Since it was my first time at Dooky Chase, I decided to get the total experience and try the lunch buffet. This buffet included a green salad, red beans and rice, some sort of broccoli vegetable mix, greens, spicy homemade sausage, macaroni and cheese, fried chicken and fried fish. I loaded up on 2 plates and a glass of lemonade and ice tea (Arnold Palmer) and was thoroughly satisfied with everything. The meal also included a corn chowder, in which I wasn't the most impressed by, but the desserts were quite pleasing. Everyone knows Dooky Chase for their peach cobbler but there was a wait for it so we tried the praline pudding. Not something I'd usually go for but it was like a bread pudding with pralines and a sweet Brandy like sauce minus the raisins. It was heavenly. The peach cobbler was decent but I've heard it's been better on other visits from the vets I was with. So if you are in the New Orleans area and looking for some homemade Southern style cooking, Dooky Chase is the place to be.
You'd think I'd be done with eating for the day, but last night I decided to go on a quest for seafood again. My boyfriend's mom and I went to Johnny Trauth's Seafood Bistro on Williams Blvd in Kenner for their $23.99 Tuesday night all you can eat snow crab special. I must say that for this one, my eyes were bigger than my stomach could hold. After placing my order, a massive tray of 5-8 snow crabs came to my table along w/butter for dipping, potatoes, sausage and corn. It literally took 1 hour just to complete. I was so tired of working through that tray til I could only handle two more crabs and then called it a night. Lol. Idk know if I would ever go back to Johnny Trauth's but there appears to be a catfish and chicken all you can eat special for $9.99 of Wednesdays in case anyone is interested. Lol.
Next stop was a pina colada daiquiri. After living in Chicago for almost 3 years, my cravings for daiquiris have increased. It seems that no one truly appreciates a daiquiri like New Orleans does. We stopped at "The Daiquiri Shop" located on Vets in Metairie and that concludes a great night. :)
There most certainly will be a part 3 to this topic Lmbo.
