Brunchin' "Indian Style"

I'm no foreigner when it comes to exotic cuisine. I've tried Indian food before, but last weekend for a friend's birthday, we went to Saffron NOLA on Magazine Street. Little did I know, the restaurant is only open until 3 pm and only serves brunch on Sundays. This turned out to work out just fine since we had the 3 pm reservation. Upon entering the restaurant, I was pretty impressed at the sleek and classy decor and wonderful smells coming from the food being presented to diners.

We started out with the Shrimp vada which were kind of like hush puppies with shrimp. Pretty good. Nothing to brag about but nothing to complain about either.
For my cocktail, I ordered the restaurant's rendition of a French 75. It was called an Indo-French Tea Party. It was much like a French 75 except it has chia. It was very good.

For my entree, I ordered the Say Cheese Dosa which was like a cheese crepe. It came with coconut chutney and tomato ginger chutney for dipping, and I ordered chicken curry to go with it as well. The dish also came with Samnar which is like a soup. I'll tell you this... my taste buds were doing Bollywood style dancing while eating this stuff. It was simply amazing.
We topped of dinner with a dessert called a Jammin' Jamun which was basically a donut with ice cream. It was good, but nothing to brag about to your mama.

Overall, I found this place to be an excellent dining experience. The service was great and the food was wonderful. I am now curious about their dinner menu options and plan to go back soon. So if you're ever in New Orleans and craving something new or some good Indian cuisine, check out Saffron NOLA.
