Wine Glass

Amongst many random conversations and tidbit sharing  I remember having with my mother, this one always sticks out each time I drink a glass of wine and it makes me chuckle and smile. When I shared it with my brother one day recently he even had to chuckle and say, "That's right."

Everyone who knows me knows that somewhere between my 3rd year in optometry school and now I've grown this profound love for wine. At one point I would drink a glass each night. I've grown or in some eyes I've regressed and probably have one every week or two. Maybe about 3 years ago, I came home to New Orleans one week, decided it's "wine time", popped a cork and am ready to pour myself a glass of wine but didn't feel like searching for, grabbing a stool and reaching for or cleaning a wine glass. (Side note: I was really feeling grown because prior to this moment I don't really recall drinking alcohol in my parent's house.)  So I went for a red Solo cup. My mom who was forbidden at that point to drink alcohol due to her treatment must have been excited to see someone drink alcohol in the house or just felt it was her civic duty to do what she does next. She jumped from the sofa swiftly walked into the kitchen, took the cup from my hand, reached into the cupboard grabbed a wine glass, cleaned it and poured the wine into a glass. She said something to the affect of "Here...This is how we drink wine. If you're going to drink it, you have to drink it from a glass." After staring at her blankly I nearly died of laughter thinking to myself that this one detail truly meant the world to her when I could care less and just wanted the wine. She smurked and walked away returning to her usual position on the sofa. Truly a lesson learned. Since then I feel almost as if it is a sin for me to drink from anything other than a wine glass when drinking wine. The queen has spoken... Lol.
