"Celebrity" Fighting Match

Everyone's mouths and ears have been buzzing with rumors that a "celebrity" fight was being arranged involving George Zimmerman and DMX. So what's the big deal one might ask? George Zimmerman is just simply the over night "sensation" known for murdering a 16 year old African American named Trayvon Martin. If you don't know of the case then you must have been hidden under a rock for the past year or more. I'm totally in agreement with The Breakfast Club's Charlemagne who questions why are we glorifying and celebrating a murderer? Why are we making him rich and relevant? Since when should murder give you the status of celebrity?

I can not lie, the human side of me wants to truly see George Zimmerman get beat down as if he owes DMX something, but the Godly side of me says is this what life is all about? Zimmerman is the same man who claims he couldn't fist fight a 16 year old so what is there for him to prove now? Is he proving he can miraculously fight now? Or is he going to play victim again? Whether it's the former or the latter doesn't matter. Why would anyone promote this fight? Damon Feldman, the promotors, would be the one to ask. It appears his deleted comments on Twitter reveal that he was a businessman all about his money.

I just found out this morning that the fight has been cancelled due to outrage from the public, signing of petitions against it and death threats towards Zimmerman. If this man was truly just defending himself against Martin and remorseful for taking a young boy's life, in my opinion, he wouldn't be so willing to be in the limelight for such negativity. But who am I to judge?

From another aspect, who in their right mind would actually WANT to fight DMX? Although many highlight his drug abuse, I might add that some of the best brawlers I know of engage in substance abuse. Let's not underestimate the power of the man due to his addiction. The mentality of this brother displayed on Celebrity Rehab and Iyanla Fix My Life makes my heart hurt for his mental stability.

Although DMX never officially agreed to the fight, he stated he was ready to beat the f*** out of Zimmerman, breaking all of the rules of boxing. Can one blame him? Seriously! Although the fight itself may have been pretty entertaining, let's not make an effort to fatten people's pockets and continue to make Zimmerman relevant. There's certainly got to be more to life than fame and greed. Right?
