On the 16th of this month my mother made another year. I never really understood how thankful we should be for birthdays until I looked at my grandmother who lived to see 90 years old. I think as younger people we never seem to appreciate life as much as the elderly. I haven't been able to spend my mother's birthday with her for the past 4 years since I've been away. Each year she'd cry and thank God for allowing her to see a new year. It's funny how things work out. This year is like no other. Her health has made her unable to even focus on her birthday. I'm sure she thanked God anyway, but the fact that she wasn't able to cut into and eat her own cake seemed to effect us all since we didn't cut it for 3 whole days. Needless to say my sister bought her a cake and someone whom she and I love ever so dearly sent her flowers.
She's impacted so many people's lives and so many people love her dearly. Her straight forwardness, endless faith, giving heart and kindness has seen many through to where they are today. She made me the woman I am today. I thank God for her and for allowing her to see another year despite the hard times we have come across. Still praying that tomorrow and even her next birthday is even better and brighter.
