My quest for crawfish...

My beau is in town and hasn't had crawfish yet. Well low and behold, it's the end of the season so these mudbugs are rare and getting smaller and harder by the minute. We decided to try Smitty's Seafood since it's not far from my house. I have only ordered stuffed shrimp in the past as carry out, we decided to dine in to get the full experience. Sadly, they were out of crawfish and wouldn't be getting any more. I hate that I didn't take any pictures but I had the best fried mushrooms of my life as an appetizer here along with some boiled potatoes. He ordered the shrimp po-boy while I decided to be adventurous and order the Eggplant Napoleon with a house salad. This dish was simply amazing. It consisted of about 3 layers of fried eggplant separated by crabmeat and drowned in a creamy shrimp sauce. I was actually surprised at how good the dish was and even wished it was upon a bed of noodles since there was so much sauce.

Overall, although we didn't get any crawfish, we were wowed by the food. The service was nothing to brag about and often times we were forgotten about when the place isn't any bigger than someone's den and kitchen. Regardless of that, I'll be back to indulge again. I wish I had picture to share but when you are as hungry as I was, there's no time to waste on capturing the moment.

The quest for the last crawdaddy continues... I imagine we'll just keep it simple and make a stop at Cajun's Seafood or the Blue Store near Susan Park in Kenner.
