What are the chances that the first face you saw outside of your home this morning is that of a man who's child drowned yesterday?
Or the lady you bumped into rushing to work is a lady who just lost her full term baby?
What are the slim chances that the child who just crossed the street was sexually abused last week?
Or the man next to you in church attempted suicide last night?
What are the chances that the young woman who you cut off in the parking lot for a parking spot just lost 2 generations of women in her family and is simply there to make groceries to feed her mourning family?
Or the young woman in front of you in line at the pharmacy was just told that her husband gave her an STD?
What are the chances that the middle aged man sitting on the bench waiting for the bus was just told he has 2 days to live and was given the option to contact hospice?
Or the elderly lady in front of you at the grocery store just lost her last living child?
What are the slim chances that the person in the car in front of you at the bank was just diagnosed with a fatal disease?
Or the person with a facial deformity was the result of a drug and alcohol abusive mother?
Like you, I used to be naive enough to think that the chances of this were so slim. As you live, learn and experience life you realize that the very person right next to you has a horrid experience to tell... A bone chilling story of survival... A wail of desperation... A simple prayer request. You just don't know what type of day, week, month, year or life they've had. The Bible speaks of how you should be careful of how you entertain strangers because you may be entertaining an angel of the Lord. So my question is simply how did you entertain Him today? Instead of talking about the person next to you or ignoring their presence, let's make it a habit to pray for the people in each room we walk in, the people we pass down each hall or on each highway. You never know how much a simple smile, joke or even a prayer can do for someone. Trust me... I know.
