Up, Up, and Away

Last week I had to take a trip to Charlotte, NC to take one of my boards examination. Supposedly Charlotte is one of the top 5 most central cities in the U.S. It never dawned on me how this could have been possible. I hadn't heard much about Charlotte nor did I ever know anyone who was from there. I flew in on Tuesday of last week. Obviously the city is a "popping" more than I thought considering that the airport is a decent size and there is a Lacoste store in the airport, something that good old New Orleans lacks. The second I got off the airplane, instead of grabbing my bags I went to Cinnabon. Lol. My hotel was Uptown which is what most cities consider Downtown on North College St. It was a few blocks from the Epicentre which is an outside plaza with bars, night clubs and restaurants.

How can I travel to any city without trying some food? Right next door to my hotel was Mert's Heart and Soul.  I read about it on Yelp but didn't realize that it was literally right next door to my hotel. So I went over for dinner on my first night.

The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty cool. Lots of visual stimuli all over the walls. The staff was really nice and prompt with seating and bringing out my food.

I ordered the fried catfish and chicken quarter plate which came with 2 veggies and cornbread. The fish was a whole catfish on the bone, just as my mother likes it. It fish was seasoned pretty decently but not fried as much as I'd normally like it. The mac and cheese was pretty good as well. The chicken was taken to the hotel in a to-go box since I was so stuffed.

The cornbread was massive and pretty good. :) The only negative thing I can say about this place is that they were out of banana pudding. :( But I guess it's just that good. To make up for it they gave me what tasted like a lemon pound cake to-go. It was a generous slice and was so most.

The hotel had a work-out room on the roof. This is Charlotte skyline from my hotel's roof.

The roof of the hotel.
Of course I took this trip as a time for QT with my self.
Self Date: My second night and after the board exam I walked over to the Epicentre and decided to dine at Vida Mexican Kitchen y Cantina since I saw that their online menu include ceviche.

Parita- basically supposed to be a sweet margarita but it tasted like a regular margarita to me.
Can't go wrong with a White Sangria? Yum.
Shrimp and crab enchilladas with spinach and red spanish rice.  The thought of this was nice but it wasn't seasoned as nicely as I thought it would have been.
Beautiful fountain near the bus stop Uptown.

My trip was almost perfect until I got to the airport at 8am. The line was horrendous and moved so slow. Thank God I got to the airport early!

Random: How can one seriously travel with what I call hooker or stripper heels on? Yes they were clear with the platform in the front. They may even light up in the dark. Lol. And yes she was with her child and significant other.
