All My Single Ladies

Move over Beyonce! There are some new ladies in town who have us all reminiscing on our single experiences. Vh1 along with Queen Latifah couldn't have come up with a better way for me to spend my Monday nights this summer. I must admit that at first I was not thoroughly impressed by Val and Keisha (Stacey Dash and Lisa Rae McCoy). We all remember Stacey Dash from her horrible acting in Clueless, and since then we have just embraced her as eye candy since she clearly has the directions and full access to the fountain of youth and looks AMAZING! And who can forget Lisa Rae McCoy in Player's Club? Or her recent breakup with the Prince of Zamunda or wherever the heck he was from. Neither of these ladies struck us as great actresses or ones worthy of an Academy Award. I probably shouldn't have expected so much from this show. After giving the show a chance, I was immediately sucked into the character's lifestyles and the gorgeous outfits they all seem to wear. The world needed a series that included women of color but is just as amazing as Sex and the City. The show's setting in Atlanta, takes us outside of the cliche New York and Hollywood settings that most shows opt to have. The characters easily remind me of someone I know and are rarely but sometimes easy to relate to. I think the most disturbing thing about this show is that none of the women have a successful relationship. I suppose that since it's just season 1, I shouldn't have my hopes up so high. It's great that the show has lots of cameo appearances and reasonably attractive cast members (Did I mention the chocolate drop who plays Malcolm? Lol.). In addition, it is in an hour slot, which gives us the perfect amount of time to jump in and not get bored with the story. I don't know what the future may hold for this show but for now I'm entertained. I miss black sitcoms and I'm glad to see women of color popping up slowly but surely on TV. This show is a nice break from the million reality shows that Vh1 has suckered me into watching for all of these years. Keep it coming!
