Natural Me

So what is up with black hair? Yeah, I said it. But I can b/c I'm black. :) I just don't understand why we were given some of the most time consuming hair in the world!!

So I've been through every hair phase known to man, except that faux hawk that everyone is wearing and a Jerry Curl. Lol. Have no fear... I will never and I do mean NEVER rock a Jerry Curl. I've had blonde hair, red hair, auburn hair, brown hair, etc. You name it and I've had it. I've had long hair. I've had short hair. I've had it all honey. You think you got it 1st. Nope. I bet you I've had it before. Lol. I love the versatility that hair has to offer. But why are so many African American women afraid of being natural? Why does society as a whole seem to think that natural is ugly and Indian Remy is beautiful? I will agree that there are some natural women who need to put a little bit of work and effort into their hair. There is a way to make natural beautiful. Perhaps what seems like a worldwide natural hair movement is exactly what we need.

So after being relaxed at the tender age of 4 and maintaining the silky straight look for 21 years, I've made an executive decision. I'm going natural baby! My last relaxer was in January 2011 and I'm slowly transitioning into an all naturale look. :) But making that decision wasn't the easiest but the feeling has been quite liberating.

I'm not sure if I will do a big chop or just wear braids or sew ins but whatever the choice is I'll keep you guys posted. It's already been 4 months... I still treat my hair as though it's relaxed and wash/condition it 2-3x per week. I'm still able to roller wrap it and flat iron it at this point. I have about 1.5-2 inches of new growth which is quite scary considering that kinky new growth has always been considered a faux pas amongst society and sadly I've agreed.

When I was younger, I only got relaxers every 2-3 months. At this point idk how I ever did that comfortably and without a flat iron. Lol. Thus far, most people can't tell that I am trying to go natural besides the fact that I've been trimming ends like crazy so it looks a little shorter. I thanks God for flat irons and for the fact that my sister is a hair stylist and taught me a thing or two. At any rate, I'm excited about the transition and excited to share it with you. I'll keep you posted. :)
